CHIEF INSTRUCTOR CHARLES F. QUIMBY
Sensei Charles Quimby is co-founder and Chief Instructor of Authentic Martial Arts, located in North Beverly, Massachusetts. Having been practicing and teaching in the martial arts for over twenty years, Sensei Quimby’s story began as a child. Under the guidance and tutelage of his master instructor and father, young Charles began his martial arts career with great enthusiasm and anticipation. In the dojo, Charles took great pride in his “karate lineage” and practice, but was generally regarded as a student of average skill and talent. Through years of focused training and determination, Charles slowly established himself as the dojo’s most ambitious and respected student. Often given the opportunity to be the “workout partner” of special guests visiting his father’s karate class, Charles prided himself on showcasing the efficiency and effectiveness of his family’s unique training methods and martial art philosophy.
Reflecting on his earlier years, Mr. Quimby shared that his family always encouraged him to apply as much of his training to life “outside” the dojo as possible. “My father taught me very early on to see the practice of martial arts as a tool that could be used to help make a person more successful in all areas of life. I remember clearly that I was expected to not only set an example within the dojo, but also continuously strive to apply the philosophical lessons of martial arts to my everyday life. It wasn’t uncommon for my father to make a martial arts lesson out of whatever was going on in my life at the time…whether it was a school science project, a weekend mountain hike or even a job interview as a high school student.”
Today, Sensei Quimby is proud to be a teacher and mentor to students both young and old. “I consider it truly special to pass on to my students the techniques, lessons and values that were passed on to me by my own father years ago.”
Having had the privilege to travel throughout the world as both a competitor and a student, Mr. Quimby has studied under some of the most revered karate masters in Japan and North America. Currently ranked as a 5th degree black belt in Uechi-Ryu Karate and a 1st degree black belt in Okinawan Kobudo, he is recognized among his peers as one of the youngest practitioners in the world to have been awarded the title of Shihan (or master instructor) by the governing body of Uechi-Ryu Karate in Okinawa, Japan. Prior to his professional martial arts career, Charles worked as a Consumer Behavior Analyst representing the AC Nielsen Corporation. Traveling extensively within the United States, Charles consulted with many of the countries largest consumer packaged goods retailers. Working with senior levels of marketing, operations and research, Mr. Quimby specialized in analyzing and designing strategic marketing initiatives aimed at strengthening customer loyalty and sales. An honors graduate of Northeastern University and Hoff Scholarship recipient, Sensei Quimby is a devoted husband and father. When not teaching and training, he enjoys spending his personal time with his wife Charlotte and their young son, Hayden Alexander.
